Healthy People 2020

Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) is a set of goals and objectives with 10-year targets designed to guide national health promotion and disease prevention efforts in order to improve the health of all Americans. HP2020 has expanded compared to HP2010, with nearly 600 objectives organized into 42 topic areas. The Department's Division of Health Informatics provides statistics to assist in the monitoring of progress for a portion of these objectives at the state and county level, when data are available. As data become available, more objectives will be added to the reports below. Please visit the national Healthy People website for further information on the history and current state of HP2020.

The national website for HP2020 contains a complete list of HP2020 objectives and additional information on HP2020.

The report, Family Health Statistics for Pennsylvania and Counties, tracks progress in meeting Healthy People objectives related to maternal, infant, child and youth health status.

Healthy People 2020 replaces Healthy People 2010 and as a result, there are many changes to the goals and objectives when compared.

The Healthy People 2010 - Final Review (.xlsx) displays the progress that Pennsylvania achieved in meeting the 2010 goals for objectives where Pennsylvania data were available. This review is based on the archived state-level HP2010 report. Additional archived HP2010 materials are available upon request.

Notes: Age-adjusted rates/percentages were calculated using the U.S. 2000 standard million population distribution. Therefore, these figures are comparable only to age-adjusted rates/percentages that were calculated using the same standard. Rates/percentages were not calculated and shown for small numbers of events due to unreliability for comparison/analysis. Age-adjusted death rates were not calculated and shown if less than 20 events occurred. All other types of rates (non-sample data) were not calculated and shown if less then 10 events occurred. Percentages were not calculated and shown for BRFSS sample data when the sample size was less than 50 or when the portion of the sample being represented was of size greater than or equal to 50 but the calculated percentage was deemed to be statistically unreliable. Unknowns were excluded from calculations unless specified otherwise. Data are for residents unless specified otherwise.
